WALLOWA Senior Kuulei Delatori pitched 12 innings March 19 for the high schools softball team, but the Lady Cougars lost both ends of a season-opening doubleheader at Pilot Rock. The Cougars dropped the first game by a score of 5-1, the other was a 12-2 decision.
It wasnt that bad, Wallowa coach Rob Burns said. Some of the girls built a little confidence. I felt good about it really.
The Cougars played short-handed, with several teammates away on spring break. Delatori spent most of the afternoon in the pitching circle. She threw all of the first game and tallied four strikeouts. She followed with another five innings, while senior McKenzie Shelton gave her a short relief.
Meanwhile, Delatoris bat was potent. She hit a triple in the first game and scored Wallowas only run. Sophomore Effie Burns batted her in. In the second game, Burns scored a run, along with sophomore Samantha Johnston.
