- A day at Wallowa Lake
There are countless ways to spend a day at Wallowa Lake, including all-day hikes, via several trailheads near the lake, into the Eagle Cap Wilderness.
family can spend a leisurely vacation day without ever leaving the immediate vicinity of the lake.
Here are just a few activities to fill a day in the Wallowa Lake community:
Go fishing. Bring along your fishing poles, rent a boat at the Wallowa Lake Marina and go after the lakes trout, record kokonee or mackinaw. Tackle and bait are available at the marina.
Treat yourself to a mountain-sized breakfast. Pancakes and eggs cooked on your own Coleman stove at a Wallowa Lake State Park campsite, or going out to one of the lakes fine restaurants.
Travel up the side of Mount Howard on a dont-miss excursion on Wallowa Lake Tramway, the steepest four-person gondola in North America. There are spectacular views on top and two miles of developed trails lead to outlooks. On a clear day, you can see three states. Summit Grill on top is easily Wallowa Countys highest eatery at 8,150-feet. Be sure to bring your camera.
Depending on how long you dawdle on Mount Howard, there should still be enough time in the day to treat the whole family to more some fun. Theres a go-cart track, bumper boats, arcade games, two miniature golf courses, horse rentals and bicycle rentals. Several gift shops are fun to browse for Wallowa Lake souvenirs.
Night falls fairly early at the head of Wallowa Lake because of the mountains looming close, but theres still plenty of sky overhead for star counting in the clear mountain air.
Enjoy your day at Wallowa Lake.
