- Parker of Parker Tree Service, Summerville, works about 100 feet above the Eagle Cap Chalets parking lot Friday afternoon.
Grant Parker, 19, of Parker Tree Service dangled 120 feet above terra firma while taking down several White Fir trees next to the Eagle Cap Chalets near Wallowa Lake on Friday, March 11. Parker Tree Service has been in business since 1937, the first 40 years in California and the last 27 years based in Summerville, Ore., according to owner Jesse Parker.
Jesses grandfather started climbing trees in 1933 and sprouted the business in 37. In 1944, he won the honor of World Champion Tree-Climber, and continued working high up in the trees for a total of 58 years, said Jesse.
Jesse said hed followed in the family business and that hed been topping trees for about 40 years after beginning at age 14.
While there were challenges to the job on Friday, they successfully took down the problem trees in a very tight work area with precision accuracy.
Before the work at Eagle Cap Chalets, the Parkers had just finished a huge job in California. We just finished topping 200, 200-foot Eucalyptus trees, Jesse said.
