THURSDAY, MARCH 10

Free lecture and discussion: Seeding a Sense of Place: Science, Stories, and Smart Forest Policy with author and editor, Gail Wells, 7 p.m., Fishtrap Coffin House, 400 E. Grant St., Enterprise. Hosted by Fishtrap and Wallowa Resources and sponsored by Oregon Humanities. This event is part of the statewide Conversation Project: A New Chautauqua. FRIDAY, MARCH 11

Countywide Battle of the Books (for second- through sixth-graders), 6:30 p.m., Enterprise school multipurpose room. A donation tostada bar is planned from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

 

Joseph FFA Alumni Associations annual dinner, auction and dance, 6 p.m., Joseph Community Center. $10 tri-tip steak, live music, and both silent and live auction. Tickets available from Joseph High School office, FFA members or the Sports Corral.

 

MARCH 11-12

Tamkaliks Rummage & Bake Sale, Wallowa Band Nez Perce Trail Interpretive Center, 209 East 2nd St., Wallowa. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday; 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday; chili, Indian tacos and fry bread served both days

 

SATURDAY, MARCH 12

St. Patricks Day Meat Shoot, 9 a.m. Wallowa Rod & Gun Club, Lower Diamond Road. Prizes include hams, cheese, summer sausages and more; special games for nonshooters. Yard Sale and chili feed, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wallowa High School gym. Proceeds to benefit 2011 Wallowa students Washington, D.C., trip.

The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation fundraiser banquet will begin with games and a cocktail social at 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 12. They will be followed by a prime rib dinner at 6:30 and silent and live auctions. Tickets are $65 per person or $95 per couple. Each ticket includes yearly membership and magazine subscription. Joseph All-School Carnival, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., Joseph school cafeteria, presented by JHS Thespian with involvement by many school groups and classes, $1 admission, $.50 tickets.

 

Powerful Tools for Caregivers class starts, 1-2:30 p.m., Enterprise Community Connection center. Six-week class educational series ends April 19, designed to help unpaid family caregivers take care of themselves while caring for a relative or friend. Open House to honor volunteer Dorothy Daggett, 2 to 4 p.m., Community Connection center, 702 NW 1st, Enterprise. Dorothy is moving to Prineville to be near family at end of March. Cake, punch and coffee will be served; cards from friends are welcome.
