The Eagles got hot at the right time.

Joseph High School boys basketball team on Dec. 29 lit up the scoreboard in the last quarter of a 62-52 victory over Nixyaawii at the Lions Holiday Tournament in Wallowa. Nixyaawii took a six-point lead into the final minutes, until Joseph went ballistic. Before the game ended, junior Trevor Lewis who already had converted a shot from beyond the three-point arc did it four more times. He helped Joseph catapult on top.

We didnt give up, coach Ron Lathrop said. We played smart in the fourth quarter. We got the ball inside, and that opened up the outside.

Victory upped Josephs record this season to 7-3.

Senior Ian Baynes finished as the top scorer. He totaled 21 points. Lewis ended up with 20. He made five shots from three-point range. Senior Forrest Watson hit one, and ended up with 6 points. Junior Dakoda Shadle also tallied 6 points, junior B.J. Warnock netted 5 points, junior Lucas Staigle had 3. Junior Anthony Smallen chipped in a basket from the free-throw line.

The rest of this season, the Eagles will challenge rivals in Old Oregon. Next, they will play Jan. 8 in Halfway.
