The Wallowa-Whitman National Forest has issued a reminder that possessing, discharging or using any kind of fireworks is prohibited on public lands.
“Fireworks at this time of the year are a big concern,” said Bret Ruby, fire management officer for the Forest. “The seemingly harmless sparklers, as well as the bigger combustible devices like rockets and Roman candles can start a fire.”
With dry weather forecast for the week of the July 4 holiday and the potential for thunderstorms, the risk of wildfire is considerably increased, he said.
