Health is the subject Saturday, June 26, at the Wallowa Memorial Hospital Health Fair, a free event featuring runs, walks, information and a project to ensure that residents know their medications and use them properly.

The third annual Amy Hafer Race for Awareness includes 5K and 10K runs and 5K and one-mile walks starting at 9 a.m. To register, 541-426-1913.

The hospital will provide blood-pressure checks, a tour of its new digital mammography machine and information on hospital services.

A primary emphasis, though, will be on proper use and tracking of medication.

At the “medication reconciliation” station, residents can bring their medications and have hospital staffers using a computer produce a wallet card listing the medications. At the same time, staffers will record the medications for future reference by doctors and hospital personnel.

The project was started after a national study reported that 48 percent of patients couldn’t make an accurate list of their medications.
