Hafer Race for Awareness, June 26

Published 5:00 pm Wednesday, June 23, 2010

Wallowa Valley Health Care Foundation invites everybody to run or walk the third annual Amy Hafer Race for Awareness, June 26 outside Wallowa Memorial Hospital in Enterprise.

The community exercise is done in memory of Hafer, a native of the county who died in 2007 at age 37 after her 17-month battle with breast cancer. The race raises money for a digital mammography machine.

Starting from the hospital parking lot, men and women of all ages will run or walk long distances: a mile, five kilometers or 10K. The race starts around 9 a.m. The course starts uphill, before runners can coast their way to the finish line. Ribbons will be awarded to the top three finishers in each age group: under 13 years old, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70 and up. Participants can sign up online at (www.wchcd.org/event.htm). Registration costs $25 with a commemorative T-shirt, $15 without one.
