The Wallowa Valley Music Alliance fiddle tune workshop is full, but there’s room for mandolin students in a marvelous workshop taught by Bob Webb July 12 through 16. Check out (www.wvmusicalliance.org) for details.

Congratulations to the Sheep Shed, which held its one-year anniversary party two weekends ago. It has become an integral addition to our art scene.

And the Wallowa Valley Festival of Arts was another unqualified success. Congratulations to co-directors Carolyn Gilbert, David Riley and Karen Kearns who fielded a stellar veteran squad: Heather Tyreman, Bill Finney, Mike and Linda Koloski, Alice and Ben Kables and Les Laviner. The festival was a melange of fine art, showing its vibrancy and “infinite variety.”

The protean Leah Johnson and her sidekick, Will Roundy, put together an astounding Quick-Draw-music, hors d’oeuvres, wine, beer and an opportunity to watch artists create their individual visions. All the above named deserve appreciation from a grateful community: they gave us a weekend of creative energy and delight.

Tom Hutchison covers the arts for the Chieftain in collaboration with the Wallowa Valley Arts Council. Contact him at (hutchisonthomas@hotmail.com).
