- Elane Dickenson/Chieftain
Quilts of all colors and patterns (such as the flower motif from a past quilt show) will be featured at the quilt show at Joseph High School.
The Joseph High School gymnasium will be transformed into a colorful maze of approximately 130 hanging quilts during the 18th annual Wallowa Mountain Quilters Guild Quilt Show this weekend.
The two-day fabric-art show is scheduled to run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, June 11, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 12. Admission is $3, with children under 12 free.

The featured quilter is Karen Schoepflin Hagen of Genessee, Idaho, who once spent two years on a collection of quilts that represented a deck of cards. She will demonstrate quilting techniques both days; her specialty is the art quilt – a quilt made to hang on a wall as art rather than cover a bed.
“We’re expecting to have an awesome show,” said co-chairperson Susan Alford.
All awards presented to exhibitors are voted on by those who attend the show. Everyone will be encouraged to vote for their favorite for Best of Show, as well in several categories, including bed size, wall hanging, wearable, crib and lap and miniature. The quilt guild members also compete in a couple of challenge categories, including the ugly fat quarter contest in which quilters are given quarters of “ugly” fabric which they incorporate into a beautiful quilt.
Quilting supply vendors and dessert concessions are all part of the show, set up down the hall in the high school cafeteria. A raffle quilt will be given away about 4 p.m. on Saturday; tickets are $1 each or six for $5.
To get to the high school, just turn east on William E. Williams Ave. off Main Street in Joseph, and follow street up the hill. Car parking for the quilt show will be available at the south side of the school (no RVs are allowed there) or in the school parking lot.
