Casey Zollman, 30, of Pendleton is now recuperating at home after suffering severe burns in an accident while lighting a propane fireplace in rural Joseph May 11.
Zollman, a 1997 graduate of Joseph High School, was flash-burned on 50 percent of his body with second-degree burns. He was airlifted to the Oregon Burn Center at Emmanuel Hospital in Portland and released May 31 after spending 21 days in the hospital, including 19 in the intensive care unit.
“He is now at his home in Pendleton, doing rehab from home with 24-hour care,” said his mother, Sheryl Seim-Montoya of Joseph. “Casey’s burns are healing great and it looks like he won’t need any skin grafting. His burn doctor said he probably won’t have much scarring if any.”
She expressed appreciation from her son and the rest of the family for everyone’s kind thoughts and prayers during his hospital stay.
A donation account has been set up at Sterling Savings Bank in Enterprise to help with all his medical expenses. A benefit auction will also be held June 18 at the Elks Lodge in Pendleton. Anyone who would like to donate items can drop them off at Sterling Savings Bank.
