Lester ‘Tuffy’ Prince

Lester “Tuffy” Prince died in La Grande at the age of 91. He was born to Phillip and Sarah Reed Prince in the Powatke Ridge area north of Wallowa.

During WWII Tuffy enlisted in the army and was sent to Omaha Beach.

After the war he returned to Wallowa County to work in the lumber industry and later retired from Boise Cascade.

He married Ruby Lyman in 1947.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting and the beauty of the outdoors in Eastern Oregon where he always had a garden to harvest. Friends and family remember him as a man of quick-witted humor who loved playing cards with friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby, in 1985.

He is survived by three children, four grandchildren and his sister, Eva Dern. A celebration of life was held June 1, 2010, in La Grande.
