The Cubs shrugged off one disappointment, and came back even stronger.
Enterprise-Joseph captured an important victory April 24 at Elgin’s softball field. Behind the right arm of sophomore Whitney Schaefer, who pitched all seven innings, and the wicked bat of senior Bailee Reimer, who smashed two triples and scored three runs, the Cubs defeated Elgin-Imbler by a score of 10-1 in the second game of a doubleheader. In the opener, a 9-1 decision in favor of the home team snapped Enterprise-Joseph’s 10-game winning streak.
Action over the weekend also included two wins, April 23 at Adrian. There the Cubs overpowered the Antelopes 14-2 and 28-2.
Closing the weekend with a victory, Enterprise-Joseph maintained its grip on first place. The Cubs’ record against district rivals improved to 11-1. Their overall mark bounced up to 14-3.
In the first game at Elgin, sophomore Katie Edison pitched well but junior Hannah Graham mustered the Cubs’ only run. In the meantime, Edison threw six strike outs over six innings.
However, the Cubs came back with fury. In addition to Reimer’s slugging, senior Mariah Warnock hit a double and scored three times. Enterprise-Joseph also took another run from Graham, along with scores from senior Summer De Spain, sophomore Shelby Graning and freshman Myranda McFetridge.
Next, Union will come to Enterprise for an April 30 doubleheader. The following day, the Cubs will host Pine Eagle
