Improvement was an epidemic.

Almost every golfer from Wallowa High School played their best game April 16 at the Union Invitational. Both teams, boys and girls, trimmed their scores from the previous week.

At Buffalo Peak, the boys totaled just 380 strokes, about 80 fewer than the previous tournament at Wildhorse. Freshman Pierce Millar shot an 84, junior Mitchell Swift posted a 94, freshman Kody Swift had a 95 and junior Tyler Chrisman added his 107. Sophomore Chris Swift also improved, as he shot a 118.

Meanwhile, the girls combined to take 443 strokes. That was about 60 fewer than the previous week. Sophomore Shawna Chrisman led the way. She broke 100 for the first time. “She had a very, very good day,” coach Marvin Gibbs said.

The girls’ team also took sophomore Breanna Wallace’s 108, senior Natalie Millar’s 113 and sophomore Sara Chrisman’s 123. Sophomore Katelynn Burns experienced some trouble and put up a 140.

Next, April 22, Wallowa will take another try at Wildhorse in the Nixyaawii Invitational.
