Deni, Tucker and Hannah Van Winkle have succeeded in doing something for Wallowa County kids and for the Food Bank.

The trio, ages 11, 9 and 8 respectively, have earned more than $400 at the Toy and Gift Exchange inside the Mountain Air Café Mall in Joseph.

The Gift Exchange, which featured donated and garage-sale gifts, opened just after Thanksgiving and offered gifts for $5 or less – with 99 percent of the gifts priced at one dollar “so that kids could afford to shop,” the biz kids said.

To make sure everyone could afford to shop, they took canned food in payment for gifts as well as cash. Profits and canned food together were delivered to the Community Connection Food Bank for a grand total of 65 pounds of food and a check for $406.19.
