The Lady Eagles took third place at their basketball tournament.

Joseph High School’s girls bounced back from a 41-28 loss against Adrian on Dec. 18, the first day of the Joseph Education Foundation’s Shootout Invitational. They topped the Wallowa Cougars, 47-33, in a consolation. Ahead by just a couple of baskets at halftime, they took control in the third quarter.

“It was a good game,” said senior Josey Kohlhepp, who scored 12 points each day. “We had a good time playing against Wallowa.”

The Eagles finished the weekend with an overall record of 3-4. Joseph’s victory over Wallowa, a rival in Old Oregon, had no bearing on its record in the league.

Senior Mariah Warnock totaled 23 points at the tournament, while senior Anna Bird and junior Jesse Kohlhepp both had 10. Two of Bird’s buckets came from three-point range. Sophomore Jade DeLury chipped in 6 points, junior Emily Howerton 2.

The Eagles also ventured Dec. 21 to Condon. The following day, they played in Echo. Both games happened too late for this edition of the Chieftain.

After Christmas, Joseph will go to Wallowa on Dec. 28 and 29 for the Lions Tournament.
