Wallowa girls unwrap Christmas trophy

Lady Cougars claimed a championship.
Wallowa High School’s girls won both of their basketball games, Dec. 11 and 12, at the Condon Christmas Tournament. First. they clobbered Portland Lutheran’s team by the score of 64-21. Half way through it, the Cougars had mounted a 20-point advantage. The following day, Wallowa bested Irrigon, 40-28, in the tournament’s finals.

The Cougars’ record improved to 3-2.
Every one of Wallowa’s girls contributed to the scoring sprees. Over the weekend, sophomore Skylar Waters totaled 23 points, senior Meagan McKenzie had 18 points, junior McKenzie Shelton had 15, sophomore Baylee Shelton 13 and senior Megan Goller 11. Senior Natalie Millar and sophomore Rebekah Jamerson both contributed 7 points, while sophomore Breanna Wallace put up 6 points. Senior Tiffany Zollman and sophomore Sara Chrisman each chipped in a basket against Portland Lutheran.
The Cougars dominated in almost every aspect. Waters also dished 7 assists, grabbed 11 rebounds and made 5 steals at the tournament. Goller totaled 16 rebounds, Jamerson 15, Meagan McKenzie 14. Baylee Shelton had 6 steals against Irrigon, while Wallace had 3 each day.
Wallowa also drove Dec. 15 to Enterprise. It happened too late for this week’s edition of the Chieftain.
Next, the girls will take their three-game winning streak to the Dec. 18 and 19 tournament in Joseph.
