Tyler’s three is a charm

Enterprise High School junior Tyler Micka buried seven shots from three-point range last week. His last three helped the Outlaws on Dec. 5, as they captured their first win: a 68-60 decision over Ione High, the host of a tournament over the weekend.
The victory changed the course on which this season had started. Each night, the varsity newcomers showed flashes of brilliance but had not yet learned how to finish. The season started Dec. 1 at Wallowa, where the Outlaws repeatedly crept within a basket of a squad loaded with stars. But in the last quarter, Wallowa took over and claimed a 59-48 decision. Three days later at Ione, Enterprise lost another tight contest. This time, Umatilla (Class 3A) was the victor, 61-58.

Tyler totaled 38 points in the Outlaws’ three games. His brothers, Jared and Jacob, scored 32 and 18 respectively. Sophomore Marcus Lynn was another hot shooter. He tallied 25 points. And junior Matt Perren banked 22. Enterprise also used 17 points from senior Jacob Girtz, 12 from junior Chaunce Galletly and 8 from junior Kyle Stangel. Junior Sean Dean made a basket in the opener against Wallowa.
Fresh off their first win, the Outlaws went to Joseph. The Dec. 8 game happened too late for this edition of the Chieftain.
Next, Dec. 11 and 12, Enterprise will host its own tournament, the Winter Classic.
