Wallowa Resources – Wallowa Mountain Institute announced the scheduling of two summer 2009 backpacking trips in the Eagle Cap Wilderness for teenagers ages 13-18.
Trips are open to both local students and students from outside the region. In summer 2008 the WREN program had a mixture of local youth and students from Washington, western Oregon, and Switzerland. The trips for 2009 are:
? July 18-24, 2009: Summer WREN Backpacking Adventure for 13-14 year olds
? Aug. 10-16, 2009: Summer WREN Field Ecology for 15-18 year olds
Trip leaders include Penny Arentsen and Troy Nave of Wallowa Resources. The goals of both these trips are to develop backpacking and camping skills, develop leadership, teamwork and communication skills, discover the natural and cultural history of the area and possibly be involved in wilderness monitoring for the U.S. Forest Service.
