Outlaws need their sleep.

Plunging into the half of the basketball season loaded with Blue Mountain Conference teams, Enterprise High School boys cruised Jan 9 to an 84-32 victory at Irrigon High. Having beaten their first two district rivals, they departed full of confidence and cheerfully drove more than three hours back to Enterprise. But they returned home long after midnight. Taking their home court that afternoon, they played as though still groggy in a 71-57 loss to Pilot Rock.

The Outlaws ended up with their overall record at 5-6. Their district mark slipped to 2-1.

At Irrigon, the whole roster contributed. By halftime, ahead 42-13, every Outlaw had played – except an injured Chaunce Galletly. Senior Dakota Hull finished with the most points: 18. Senior Matt Fisher scored 16, junior Jacob Girtz 12 and senior Trenton Neil 10. The Outlaws also used senior Tyler Warner’s eight points, sophomore Matt Perren’s eight, junior Jacob Mick’s four, senior Kendall Miller’s three, sophomore Kyle Stangel’s three and senior Steve Simpson’s deuce.

However, the Outlaws fell apart the next day. In the first quarter, Neil tallied 15 points including three three-point baskets as Enterprise took a slim lead over Pilot Rock. But it was short-lived. The Outlaws made most of their 25 turnovers in the third quarter as the Rockets took over the game. Neil wound up with 27 points, Fisher had 13 and senior Dusty McAuliffe nine. Also, Girtz managed four points while Warner and Miller each had two.

The Outlaws will stick to the road. They travel Jan. 16 to Heppner, then go to Stanfield the following day.
