Eagle Cap Extreme Sled Dog race coming up Jan. 15-17

Details are being finalized for the Eagle Cap Extreme (ECX) Sled Dog Race, which is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 15, through Saturday, Jan. 17.
Veterinarian check for the dogs in Joseph and Enterprise are set for Wednesday, Jan. 15.

The race will start at Wallowa Lake State Park, and Eagle Cap Ski Club and Lions Club have combined to open the lodge at the Ferguson Ridge ski area for the comfort of race fans for the finish. Fergi is the new finish line for both the eight- and 12-dog races.
“Ferguson’s will open the lodge and the grill and be running the ski hill throughout the race,” said ECX President Clyde Raimer.
The Eagle Cap Extreme is Oregon’s only qualifying race for both the Iditarod in Alaska and the Yukon Quest in Canada.The ECX provides two, distance-mushing courses: is a 100-mile, 8-dog race snd a 200 mile, 12-dog race. Both races will make their way through the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest, which, contains the Eagle Cap Wilderness.
