Lillian Maxine Macauley, 96 of Milton-Freewater, died June 22, 2008 at the Evergreen Health and Rehabilitation Center in Milton-Freewater. A graveside service was held June 30 at the Wallowa Cemetery, with Pastor Sam Boettcher of the Valley Christian Center in Milton-Freewater officiating. Those who wish may make memorial contributions in her memory to the charity of choice in care of Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home, 902 S. Main, Milton-Freewater, Ore.
Lillian was born on May 28, 1912, the daughter of James Alfred and Grace (Knisley) Evans in Wallowa. She graduated from Wallowa High School and on April 16, 1932, she married James Wayne Macauley in Wallowa. Together the couple had six children and raised their family in the Bartlet area, also known as “grouse flats” near Troy. Later in life they spent their winters in and around Milton-Freewater.
Survivors include her children; James W. Macauley Jr. of Keizer, Ore.; Richard K. Macauley, Beverly A. Richman, Janet M. Jones and Janice M. Lewis all of Milton-Freewater; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; brother, Robert Evans of Wallowa; sister, Marjorie Moffitt of Condon, Ore.; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant daughter, Kimberly Jo Macauley; brothers, Clarence Evans and George Evans; sister, Lucille McDonald; and a granddaughter, Laura Moore.
