Elane Dickenson/Chieftain
Members of the Enterprise High School Class of 2008 sing their alma mater during recent graduation ceremonies. The EHS class was able to report over $105,000 in scholarship money received.

Graduates of Wallowa County’s three public high schools once again reaped a rich harvest of scholarships this year, reporting a total of over $276,082 in scholarship awards prior to their recent commencement.

Enterprise High School students earned $105,740 in scholarship aide, while Joseph High School grads received $89,314 and Wallowa High School students $81,028. Local organizations, memorial trusts and private and public college awards are the largest source of scholarships.

The $276,082 tally does not include two Ford Family Foundation, which will pay 90 percent of unmet college expenses for two lucky Joseph High School recipients, Corby Makin and Lena Moro. It also figures in only the first year in four-year awards, and does not count work study and other need-based grants, in most cases.
