I consider Jerry Perren a friend, and yet after two columns I feel compelled to respond to his comments. In both his comments about Mr. Bush (Chieftain, May 22) and global warming (Chieftain, May 1), I have seen an ideological blindness that allows facts to be ignored, magnified, or twisted. The result is opinions that are not balanced, but extreme, and are typical of the kind of thinking that has polarized our country and made it difficult if not impossible for us to work together for the good of all people (and our world). It seems to me that it is time for both sides of the debate (liberal and conservative) to begin to move away from the poles. If not, those who would defeat us will truly have won.

Regarding “My Two Cents: Bush is right more than wrong” (Chietfain, May 22): Bush is not enforcing our immigration laws and not protecting our borders. His conduct on the New Oreleans disaster was horrible and a real neglect of his duty.
