Smiths observe golden anniversary

Churchel (Smitty) and Janice (Womack) Smith of Battle Ground, Wash., observed their 50th wedding anniversary on Sunday, May 19.

The couple was married May 19, 1958, in Weiser, Idaho. Janice graduated from Wallowa High School in 1956.

They have a daughter, Julie Murray, and a son, Randall Smith, as well as five grandchildren (Kyle and Katie Smith, Kristin Quintanilla, and Chelsey and Whitney Murray) and one great-grandson, Konner Smith.

Smitty worked for El Paso Natural Gas in La Grande and retired in 1991 William Pipeline Co. in Battle Ground after 26 years. Janice worked at various food places, the last being as a cafeteria manager in the Evergreen School District in Vancouver, Wash., from which she retired after 16 years.

The Smiths have enjoyed wintering in Apache Junction, Ariz., since 1992.
