Joseph school district teacher Michelle Homan, was among 20 educators to receive Eastern Oregon University’s Inspirational Teacher award.

She was nominated by Emily Wyffels, a 2007 graduate of Joseph High School and first-year EOU honor student. Wyffels is the daughter of Michael and Beverly Wyffels and is a recipient of the University Scholar Award at EOU.

Students who maintained dean’s list standing during fall term were given the opportunity to nominate a teacher who influenced them on their road to high academic excellence.

The university presents the Inspirational Teacher Awards annually in recognition of outstanding teachers who encourage and represent the importance of higher education to their students.

“I nominated Mrs. Homan for the Inspirational Teacher Award because of her support of my musical advancement,” Wyffels said. “Mrs. Homan gave me so many musical opportunities and she makes them available to all of her students.  I hope her current students know how lucky they are to have her for a music teacher.”

Wyffels listed many ways in which Homan helped her, including setting up an audition for All State Women’s Choir, for which she was selected for and attended.
