Obituaries: Robert Best

Robert Douglas Best of Beaverton died Jan. 19 at the age of 80. A graveside service was held Friday, Jan. 25, at 12:30 p.m. in Willamette National Cemetery.

Mr. Best was bom Aug. 10, 1927, in Halfway. He graduated from Enterprise High School in 1945. His father, Garnet Best was the County Extension Agent of Enterprise for 25 years. Robert was then a resident of the Portland/Beaverton area for approximately 35 years. A graduate of Oregon State College, Mr. Best earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering. He was a World War II Navy veteran.

In 1949 he married LaVera Eads, who survives him. She is the daughter of Homer and Winnifred Eads, and was born and raised on Alder Slope. She graduated from high school in 1945 with her husband.

Mr. Best was an engineer for pulp and paper mills and was self-employed as a consulting engineer for 11 years, retiring in 1993.

He was a member of Beaverton Christian Church.

Survivors in addition to his wife include daughter Suzanne Harrison; sons Philip and Alan; sisters Patricia Dishman and Jean MacMurray; plus six grand-children and three great-grandchildren.
