Letter: A man with authority … and a paddle

The late Superintendent William Williams not only taught at Lostine, but served as its superintendent as well. My most vivid memory of him was a disciplinary lecture he gave the first- through fourth-grade boys (of which I was one). The subject had to do with little boys peeking up the skirts of little girls, and I can see him yet today, punctuating his points with a resounding slap of the FFA’s hazing paddle against the palm of his hand.

Given Bill’s imposing stature, the practice ended immediately.
