Outlaws struggle in losses to Vale, Wallowa High

Enterprise High School wrestling coach Chad Nash was disappointed with his team’s performance at the Baker Tournament, Dec. 15.

The Outlaws lost to Vale High School in the opening rounds, as junior Gage Nebel was the only Outlaw to win a match. Next in the consolation bracket, Wallowa proved too much and the day ended abruptly for Enterprise.

“It’s a good wake up call about being mentally prepared,” Nash said. “Last year, Vale beat us by just two points. I think they intended to put the screws to Enterprise this time. And Wallowa was very physical.”

For example, Wallowa junior Tyzick Rivera defeated sophomore Ethan Osterloh in a grueling duel. At key points in the match, Rivera took control through muscle and power. Nash said Osterloh learned the need to remain aggressive.

A couple of the Outlaws wrestled well. Freshman Alex Courtney scored his first victories at the varsity level. In three matches, he pinned this first two opponents and did well in the other.

Also, junior Zach Swendiman battled Jakes Noyes of Imbler, a medallist at last season’s state championship, in a hard fought loss. Noyes pinned him in the second period.

“It was the wildest match of the tournament,” Nash said. “They were two unorthodox wrestlers.”

Next, the Outlaws will go to Elgin High School for the tournament, Dec. 22.
