Outlaws’ balanced attack beats Cougs

Nine different Lady Outlaws scored for the girls’ basketball team in its first game at the Winter Classic.
Enterprise High School used 10 players, and the well-spread attack against Wallowa High School resulted in a 60-29 win on Friday, Dec. 7. The Outlaws advanced to the championship.
Junior guard Kayla Foster led the team with 11 points. Junior forward Jean Morello scored 9 points, while senior point guard Kayann Layton, senior forward Theresa Stangel and junior guard Tonya Neil each tallied 8.
The Outlaws burst to an insurmountable lead in the second quarter helped by Foster’s three baskets. Morello connected on a pair and sophomore Sarah Butterfield chipped in four points. They led, 33-17 at the hafltime break.
Enterprise dominated the final quarter to close the game. Neil and Layton both sank attempts from beyond the three-point arc. At the same time, the defense limited the Cougars to baskets by senior Brittany Mayton and sophomore Megan Goller.
Mayton and junior forward Judith Shike both scored 8 points to lead Wallowa. Mayton also pulled down 11 rebounds, while senior Monique McKenzie grabbed 7. Senior Mallory Turner contributed 5 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds and 3 steals.
