What at first appeared to be a slightly pulled hamstring turned out to be a season-ending knee injury for Enterprise High School junior Andrea Schaefer.

The EHS girls’ basketball team has lost Schaefer to a torn anterior crucial ligament (ACL) in her right knee. She will undergo surgery Dec. 10, after which she expects her to regain a full range of motion and reduced swelling.

Stephens diagnosed the muscle tear three days after Nov. 13, when Schaefer limped out of practice. Coach Mike Crawford thought she had pulled her hamstring.

Last season, the Lady Outlaws lost Kayann Layton to a similar injury in January. Layton had surgery six months later and sat out of volleyball in the fall.
