Panthers like wild, wild West

Only four times against the Wallowa High football team, Imbler running back Nick West took the hand off from quarterback Nick Thompson. Each time, though, was golden.
West scored four touchdowns on 109 yards and led the Panthers to a 61-6 win on Friday afternoon.
The Cougars’ overall record fell to 1-3 as it dropped the first district game on schedule. Wallowa was overwhelmed by Imbler (5-0), the preseason favorite to take the league.
The tailback made strong runs for his scoring. The longest was his last one, a 63-yard romp in the second quarter. With the extra point by Bryan Mills, the Panthers went ahead, 47-0, before halftime.
Besides West, the Panthers also had two rushing touchdowns from Mills. He took 18 carries for 160 yards. They got two more when Thompson held onto the ball and ran to the end zone.
The Cougars’ lone score came in the last quarter, when junior Price Both ran 60 yards to the pay dirt.
With the big Imbler game out of the way, Wallowa will next play Pine Eagle at Halfway on Friday afternoon. The game begins at 2 p.m.
With three wins in five games, Pine Eagle has a winning record, but the Spartans dropped their only district game. It was a 40-8 loss at Powder Valley, two weeks ago.
