Elane Dickenson/Chieftain
Jody Gleasman is the new owner and manager of the Glacier Grill, a business both husband Tom and daughter Kerry have a hand in.

A mainstay business at Wallowa Lake goes into the summer tourist season this weekend with new owners and a new name.

Formerly known as the Wallowa Lake Trading Post and more recently as Boeve’s General Store and Pub, the combination restaurant and mini-market has been renamed Glacier Grill and General Store by new owners Jody and Tom Gleasman of Joseph.

Jody Gleasman had been working for the business for over a year, when the Gleasmans purchased it from Kiethanne Boeve this spring.

“We are doing so well. We are so busy, and the summer crowd isn’t even here yet,” Jody Gleasman said last weekend. “The local community has really supported us.”

She is the manager of the business, but said her husband – who owns a contracting business – is also involved. “This is my thing, but he does come and hang out and pour beer.” He was also in charge of some kitchen remodeling.

“I’ve done restaurant work most of my life, but have never had my own business before.” Jody Gleasman said. In Wallowa County at different times she was a waitress at Toma’s, the Villager and Cloud 9 and also worked as a pharmacy technician at Wallowa Memorial Hospital and as a secretary at a real estate office.

After several years off from restaurant work, Gleasman worked for three summers at the tram’s restaurant at the top of Mount Howard and realized how much she enjoyed that kind of work.

Glacier Grill offers a full breakfast, lunch and dinner menu seven days a week, opening at 8 a.m. and closing about 8:30 p.m. weekdays and about 9:30 p.m. on weekends. Saturday is prime rib night when reservations are recommended. The grill’s phone number is 432-9292.

Among employees are daughter Kerry Gleasman, a junior at Joseph High School, and Micki Benson.

When Oliver and Kiethanne Boeve offered her the manager’s job at their business to free up some of their time, she jumped at the chance. Tragically, a short time later Oliver was diagnosed with cancer and died last winter.

The Boeves bought the old Trading Post in 1991 and expanded it gradually over the years, adding such things as a wine cellar and ATM to picnic supplies and gift items. A few years ago they added on to the building, added an outdoor garden, started serving breakfasts and a new restaurant was born.

Following her husband’s death, Keithanne Boeve continued to operate the general store/grill with the help of Gleasman and her daughters, but eventually decided to sell. She is now employed at LB Productions Inc. video/computer business in Joseph.
