Yuma picnic draws old-timers

The 45th annual Wallowa County Picnic in Yuma, Ariz., held Jan. 28, featured a vintage film of the 1930s of Enterprise, much to the delight of everyone, according to James Stanley of Beaverton, one of the former county residents at the picnic.
Stanley reported that the reunion featured many “old-timers” who have attended faithfully for over 20 years, as well as new attendees.
The gathering included both snowbirds, who still live in Wallowa County most of the year, and those who now reside in many different places.
“Some of these folks were related and yet hadn’t seen one another in years,” Stanley said. “Many of these ‘Wallowa Countians’ had moved to other locations – British Columbia, Alaska, Tucson, Phoenix, Walla Walla, Palm Springs and San Diego to name a few – due to jobs, occupations or marriages, but all of them left their hearts in Wallowa County.”
Next year’s reunion will be held the last Saturday in January at the America Legion Hall on Virginia Avenue in Yuma, Ariz.
Stanley reported that Tatty Zurcher Fenton and Gloria Zurcher Dusek were responsible for the 2006 gathering.
