- Submitted
Betty Conrad, left, receives the bronze eagle she won in a benefit raffle from Jeannie Emmons.
Betty Conrad of Wallowa was the winner of the bronze eagle bust titled “Freedom’s Spirit,” given away in a drawing as the second major benefit on behalf of Jeannie Emmons of Wallowa.
The bronze was made by Tim Parks of Enterprise and the late James Leslie, and donated to the cause by Parks.
Emmons is undergoing chemotheraphy treatments every six months and they will be necessary for the rest of her life. Emmons has battled eight different cancers over the past 21 years.
The first benefit held to help Emmons with medical expenses was a spaghetti feed organized by friends last September. Now they are planning a raffle that will have six winners.
Prizes include a half-hour airplane ride for four (depending on weight), donated by Spence Air Service of Enterprise; a four-person dinner train ride, donated by Wallowa Union Railroad; two 18-hole rounds of golf, donated by Alpine Meadows; a queen-size tulip quilt, made and donated by Dr. Dawn Crow; an elk clock, made and donated by Marie Whittaker; and a $50 meal gift certificate from the Backwoods Saloon and Restaurant of Wallowa.
Chances for these items can be purchased from Ruby Bryant, Pat Horton, Joyce Skillings, Karen Josi, Cathy Johnson, Dawna Miller and from RAM Auto and Hardware. Tickets cost $1 each or six for $5.
