Week of July 14-20THURSDAY

A book signing for photographer Hunter Barnes, who divides his time between Imnaha and New York City, will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. at Terminal Gravity pub in Enterprise. Barnes’ art photography books are “Redneck Roundup,” featuring Wallowa County images, and “Outside of Life,” a photographic look of “low riders and motorcycle gangs,” according to Barnes.

A Country Family Dance will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Wallowa Senior Center, with dances called and taught by Larry Smith. Live music will be provide courtesy of the Wallowa Valley Fiddle Tunes Workshop, sponsored by Wallowa Valley Music Alliance. There is no admission charge.

ALL WEEK

The Enterprise Public Library started a book sale and silent auction during library hours this week. The fund raising event will continue through July 21, when an open house from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. to celebrate the new front entrance will signal the end of the sale/auction.

FRIDAY

There is a free performance by participants of the Wallowa Valley Fiddle Tunes Workshop scheduled at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Beth Johnson Room at Wallowa School. The public is invited.

FRIDAY-SATURDAY

Men’s Summer Songfest, directed by Dr. James Cook of Boise State University, will be held at The Woodshed, 705 S. River St., Enterprise, this weekend. On Friday events include singing at 5 p.m., a no-host catered barbecue at 6:30 p.m. and more singing at 7:30 p.m. There will be another singing session at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, followed by a no-host lunch at noon, followed by a farewell session. FRIDAY-SUNDAY

The 18th annual Summer Fishtrap Gathering will be held on the weekend of July 15-17 at The United Methodist Campground at Wallowa. Call Rich Wandschneider at 426-3623 for more information.

Open mike readings by Fishtrap instructors and students have been held at 7:30 p.m. this week in the lodge at the campground, with the last one scheduled Thursday.

SATURDAY

A workday to prepare the grounds outsides Wallowa for the upcoming Tamkaliks Celebration will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday. Volunteers are needed, and encouraged to bring tools such as mowers and weed eaters. A barbecue is planned for lunch.

A car wash to benefit the Enterprise High School dance team will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. July 16 at the Dollar Stretcher in Enterprise.

The Hurricane Creek Grange is hosting a community barbecue starting at 4 p.m. Saturday at its hall on Hurricane Creek Road between Enterprise and Joseph.

MONDAY-FRIDAY

The Chief Joseph Summer Camp for youth will be held July 18-22 at the Buhler Ranch off Ski Run Road southwest of Joseph. Campers should bring a water bottle and a sack lunch every day except the last day of camp, when a barbecue lunch is provided. Campers should plan to arrive 10 minutes early for pickup by the bus; pickup times are 8 a.m. Wallowa Elementary School; 8:15 a.m., Crow’s Store, Lostine; 8:30 a.m., Enterprise High School; 8:50 a.m., Joseph Elementary School.
