High school grads earn over $237,000 in scholarships

Years of study are paying off for many members of Wallowa County’s Class of 2005 as scholarships and awards continue to come in.
So far the unofficial total is $237,552 in scholarships and awards to 39 students. This total does not include all scholarships and financial aid so far awarded to the new graduates.
For example, one graduate from each high school – Dustin Byers of Wallowa High School, Chelcee Noland of Enterprise High School and Riley Makin of Joseph High School – are recipients of the Ford Family Foundation award, which will pay 90 percent of expenses not already covered by other scholarships.
Many of the scholarships are also renewable for four years, and only the first year was included in a student’s final figure, which is only an approximation of the actual total in scholarships that will be earned by these students by the end of their college careers.
Scholarships are also listed in order to recognize the many local organizations, families, memorial funds and other donors who help make college education affordable for so many Wallowa County graduates.
