A survival kit that fits in your pocket is strongly recommended by Wallowa County Search and Rescue. It can save your life. Here are the components of a pocket survival kit:
A Ziploc bag into which everything else fits and which can also hold drinking water.
A straw for drinking from the bag without spilling.
A garbage bag to use as a raincoat, shelter or even a sleeping bag to preserve heat.
A strip of duct tape to fix holes in the Ziploc or garbage bags and also to cover a wound.
A small candle to conserve matches and to start a warming fire.
A box of matches to light the candle.
Flagging ribbon and a whistle to signal rescuers.
