The EHS volleyballers didn’t shine too brightly in their first preseason series at the Riverside Tournament in Boardman on Saturday. In fact, they won only two of their 10 games.

Still, coach Tammi Crawford isn’t down about the results.

“It wasn’t really great, but we were missing two of our starters, and it was a good experience for the younger players,” she said.

The absent starters, Kallie Hadden and Chelcee Noland, were both at the Lewiston Roundup, fulfilling their duties as rodeo royalty, Crawford said. Crawford mentioned that, while it might be different during the league season, she understood that players do sometimes have other commitments.

Crawford used the tournament as a chance to log some floor time for her younger, greener players, and felt that some good came out of the games – the experience. “It’s going to make them deeper,” she observed.

Enterprise was competing against Grant-Union, Heppner, Weston-McEwen, Riverside and Umatilla over the course of the tournament. The Savages’ only wins were their first game against Mac-Hi and their second game versus Umatilla.

Crawford thought there were some outstanding individual efforts. Jessie Morgan served at 97 percent and scored six aces. Kayla Stoffel had 27 kills on the day, and both Stoffel and Nicole Santiago had “a good day defensively,” Crawford said.

The team, in total, had 52 kills through the day. Alyse Fischer added a pair of solo blocks to the scoring effort.
