Area produce, items for the garden, are featured on Main Street in Joseph
Summer is finally on its way and with it the taste of garden fresh produce. Starting June 12, area residents will be able to buy local produce at the Wallowa County Community Farmers Market each Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Wildflour Bakery and Cafe on Main Street in Joseph. The market will feature seasonal, locally grown products from within Wallowa and Union counties. Initial offerings will include plenty of salad fixings, with many varieties of lettuces, spinach, salad mixes, herbs and other fresh vegetables, along with local eggs. Gardeners will be able to buy plant starts for their vegetable and flower gardens, as well as hanging baskets for their decks. As the summer progresses, a plethora of vegetables, flowers and fruits, including berries, peas, corn squash and tomatoes, will be available as they come into season. The market will run from June 12 through Sept. 25. WIC Farmers’ Market coupons are accepted. The market is seeking additional vendors to add to the bounty of produce, as well as meats and processed goods. For more information, or if you are interested in selling at the market, please contact Beth Gibans at (541)432-0930 or Colleen Whelan at (541)432-8080.
