W-W supervisor accepts new post

Karyn Wood, Wallowa-Whitman National Forest Supervisor, recently accepted the position of Director of Fire and Aviation Management, for the Pacific Northwest Region of the Forest Service and the Oregon State Office of the Bureau of Land Management. The position is headquartered in Portland.

Richard Markley, Wallowa-Whitman Deputy Forest Supervisor, will serve as the acting Forest Supervisor until the position is filled.

Wood has been the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest Supervisor since 1997.

She assumed the position after former forest supervisor Bob Richmond retired.

“I am looking forward to my next assignment but I will miss the Wallowa-Whitman,” Wood said. “In the nearly seven years that I have been here I have grown accustomed to a workforce that is comprised of highly dedicated, innovative and professional people.”

“I will always remember and treasure the time I have spent in this incredibly beautiful part of the country,” Wood added. “It has been an honor to work with local communities, other agencies and partners. This forest has led the way in many aspects of natural resource management and I expect great things will continue to emerge from here.”

Karyn Wood, who has been headquartered in Baker City, is scheduled to report to her new assignment in July. She, her husband Steve Chambers and their two children, Trevor and Bradley, will move to Portland at the end of summer.
