Though one new appointee was named to the city of Enterprise’s planning commission March 23 there remain two vacancies on the seven-member commission.

City Administrator Michele Young is advertising to fill vacancies created when commissioners either moved out of the county or out of the city limits. Anyone interested can phone 426-4196 for additional information.

The latest name added to the list of commissioners is James Chris Taylor who owns a local drywall business. He joins chairman Lee Daggett, Dick Stangel, Chuck Short and Darrel Brann on the city’s planning commission.

At the same special council meeting the council rejected three bids for a new pickup for the public works department. Bids from Milligan Motors, Summit Ford and Legacy Ford of La Grande were all higher than the council wished to pay for a pickup.

In a third item of business the council approved a $486,000 grant from the Oregon Department of Transportation to replace the Florence Street bridge where it crosses Prairie Creek in the southeast portion of the city.

Young was of the opinion that the work will be done in 2005.
