Dr. Kenneth Rost

Kenneth D. Rost, M. D., 59, of La Grande, died Dec. 23, 2003, at home, of natural causes. He was born Feb. 17, 1944, in Spokane, Wash., to Clarence A. and Iris V. (Fear) Rost.

After graduating from Beaverton High School in 1962, he earned a degree in chemistry from Willamette University in 1966. He also married Mary Anne Dorsch the same year and continued his education at Oregon Health Sciences University (OHSU), receiving his medical degree in 1970. After serving as a flight surgeon in the Air Force from 1971 to 1973 and a private medical practice in Baker City from 1973 to 1975, Dr. Rost returned to OHSU to complete his OB/GYN residency. Dr. Rost maintained a private OB/GYN practice in La Grande from 1978 until his retirement in 2001.

Dr. Rost was a member of the La Grande First Presbyterian Church and was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed water skiing, hunting, horseback riding, and running. He especially enjoyed the Eagle Cap Wilderness and spending time with family at Wallowa Lake.

Survivors include his wife, Mary of La Grande; sons and daughters-in-law Jeff and Tiffanie Rost of Salem, and Brian and Jennifer Rost of Lolo, Mont.; a brother, Terry Rost of Beaverton; and his mother, Iris Rost of Hillsboro. He was preceded in death by his father.

A celebration of life was conducted Dec. 27 at the La Grande First Presbyterian Church, Pastor Norman Shrumm officiating.
