The E-gals from Joseph dropped two contests at the Pine Eagle Tournament over the weekend. North Powder came away with a 61-32 win over JHS on Friday to send the Eagles up against Marsing in a 33-32 heartbreaker in the consolation round.

“We’re a pretty young so it was a learning experience,” said E-gals coach Dan Butterfield. North Powder jumped out to a 28-18 lead at the half and out scored the Eagles 33-14 during the final two periods. “They threw two different presses at us during the second half of the game,” Butterfield said.

Kali Miller led the North Powder onslaught with 23 points to lead all scoring in the game. Anna Yost had nine points and 15 boards to lead Joseph’s efforts.

Joseph fought the hard fight against Marsing High School but was unable to capitalize in the end. The E-gal held on to a 19-11 lead at the half. Marsing worked its way back into the game to take a 27-26 lead at the end of three which Marsing held on to for the one point win. “We were ahead in the last minute of play and lost the game because we didn’t want it bad enough,” Butterfield said. “We can’t let games slip by. We were the better team,” he added.

Anna Yost led all scoring in the game with 15 points. Julie Butterfield pulled down 22 boards. Holli Parker had seven steals and two assists for the game.

Coach Butterfield commended Emily Williams and Beth McClaran for their play during the tournament. “Emily started for us on Saturday and did a great job doing all of those thankless jobs. Beth McClaran really showed up to play this weekend with a great job on defense. She also shot the ball when we needed her to,” He said. McClaran only had five total turnovers for both games.
