The Enterprise boys came away from their first weekend of hoop action in the preseason with a 0-2 record to their credit. Enterprise traveled to the Ione Tournament on Friday to face tournament host Ione and the verdict was a 62-48 Cardinal win. ” They came out hotter than a pistol,” said EHS coach Duff Pace. ” Everything that they put up went in.”

The Cardinals built a 34-24 lead at the end of the first half. Enterprise battled back to cut Ione’s advantage to three points early in the final period but were unable to keep their momentum going.

Ione had four players in double figures for the game with Tyler Brown and Kevin Thompson leading the way with 15 points each.

Tony Swart and Zack Gassett led Enterprise’s endeavor with 14 and 12 points respectively. Clay Freels added ten points and ten boards for the Red and Black for a double double.

Enterprise played Umatilla on Saturday in a close contest that ended with the Vikings coming out on top 66-62. Both teams played evenly throughout the contest with Umatilla holding a one point 44-43 advantage at the end of the third period. The lead traded hands throughout the fourth quarter before the Vikings capitalized, scoring the final six points of the contest. Trevor Jensen scored 24 points to lead all scorers in the Vikings victory. Craig Swart led EHS with 16 points before fouling out in the loss.

Pace said that he was pleased with the teams play on Saturday, but they had some areas to work on. “We need to do a better job of blocking out because we’re not very big under the boards,” Pace said.
