Enterprise’s track teams pulled out all of the stops on Friday at the 2A district track meet held in Nyssa. The EHS boys team finished second with 110 points to edge out the Joseph boys with 109. Enterprise’s girls squad finished the afternoon in fourth with a score of 61. The E-gals were in sixth with 53 team points. Nyssa captured first place in both divisions with a 166 for the boys and 145 for the girls.

The top two placers in each event qualify to compete in the 2A state meet at Western Oregon University in Monmouth May 23 and 24.

Individually, JHS speedster Licia Miller was the big winner capturing the 100 and 200 meter sprints with times of 13.10 and 26.45 seconds respectively. Miller also ran on the first place 1600 meter relay squad with teammates Tiffany Zimmer, Denae Micka and Julie Butterfield posting a new meet record 4:13.33. The Joseph senior also qualified for state competition in the pole vault with a second place finish after clearing the bar at 9’0″.

Enterprise distance man Michael Swart ran away with first place wins in the 800 meter and 1500 meter events. Swart posted a 2:06.44 in the 800 and captured the 1500 meter win with a time of 4:21.07 just .53 ahead of Imblers’ John Bartell.

Cousin, Tony Swart flew his way to a first place 19’6″ leap in the long jump.

EHS distance runner Krista Stangle set a new meet record in the 3000 meters breaking the tape in 11:34.74. Her counterpart, Austin Himes won the 3000 meters for the EHS boys with a time of 10:06.21. Joseph’s Kyle Clough was second with a time of 10:21.72

Enterprise high jumper Maya Waldron advanced to state with a first place leap of 5′ 4″. Teammate Julie Vernarski placed third after clearing the bar at 5′ 0″.Vernarski met the qualifying standard of 5′ 0″ set by the OSAA to advance to the state meet.

Joseph sprinter Corey Otten took first place honors in the 200 meters with a time of 23.81. Otten along with teammates Tristan Patton, Randall Eschler and Cole Lathrop won the 1600 meter relay with a time of 3:35.37 almost three seconds ahead of second place Imbler.

Patton ran his way to a first place win in the 400 meters after crossing the line in 53.12.

The JHS 400 meter relay team of Eschler, Otten, Patton and Eric Butterfield finished second with a time of 45.78 behind first place Nyssa. Butterfield also had a second place finish in the pole vault after clearing the bar at 13′ 0″.

Enterprise hurdler Jason Douglas posted a first place victory in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 16.95.

JHS big man Mike Marks won the discus with a toss of 136′ 1″.
