Benjamin Ventura Ortega, 90, of Wallowa, died at home April 29, 2003. He was born in Oxnard, Calif. on Oct. 9, 1912 to Jose E. and Dolores E. (Ruiz) Ortega.

Survivors include his wife of over 30 years, Hazel, of Wallowa; daughter and son-in-law Kathleen and Roy Hogue of La Grande; a sister, Luz Verdugo of Kent, Wash.; a brother, Abraham Ortega of Hesperia, Calif.; sisters-in-law, Judy Shoopman of Wallowa and Virginia McClellan of Hood River; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Diana and Earnest Smalley of Rockchester, N. Y.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Charlie and Peg Brandenberg of Wallowa; three grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and eight brothers and sisters.

Graveside services were held May 5 at the Wallowa Cemetery. Memorial contribution may be made to the charity of the giver’s choice care of the Bollman Funeral Home.
