Oct. 10, 1902
C.A. and J.F. Tuttle with a crew of seven or eight men, well stocked with provisions and supplies, left Wednesday for the Copper Mt. Mining Co. buildings above the Imnaha. … From showings already shown, there is no doubt but that the Copper Mt. holdings can be put on a paying basis.
A post office has been established at Troy, to be supplied by special service from Grouse. Emma F. Wilson has been appointed postmaster.
FRUITA – G.F. Conley and Dr. Barnard of Joseph came over to the Park recently, engaged Joe Lugas, guide, and then plunged wrecklessly into the caverned mountains of Imnaha and Snake Rivers. Next week I hope to be able to chronicle the number of scalps and antlers of dehorned stags that encumbered these nimrods on their way home.
The Alder Slope Ditch Co. have let the contract for the construction of the first two miles of their new ditch to J.M. Mitchell of Joseph for $4000.

The bucking contest at the county fair last week was a larger feature than ever before. Tom Zahm earned the first prize, riding Forget Me Not; Gerald was second on Help Wanted; and Wayne Davis did his stuff on Snowball.
Vernon Warnock had a bad fall when his horse, Rimrock Maid, fell on the fair grounds race track Saturday afternoon. He left the hospital the first of the week, but has not recovered wholly from his injuries.
While a party of Nezperce Indians were on their way home from the county fair Monday morning, one car went off the grade on the Mt. Misery forest road north of Troy, Mrs. Maggie Johnson of Lapwai, Idaho, was killed and three others were hurt.
Among the lucky deer slayers of the season is Leonard Riggle, 14, who killed a two-point buck Saturday morning from the front yard of his home on Smith Mt.

Oct. 10, 1952
Everett Findley, 43, was instantly killed about 3:30 Friday afternoon when he fell from a ledge below Hideaway Springs on the breaks of the Imnaha canyon.
Gov. Adalai Stevenson will speak at the Pendleton airport Wednesday, Oct. 15, at 2:45 p.m. He will deliver a 30-minute speech on agriculture and the development of the Columbia River basin.
Mrs. Irene Wiggans has announced that the Wallowa Lake Lodge will remain open through the fall season this year. Starting Oct. 11 there will be dancing every Saturday night and dinners will be served.

A mysterious cattle killing occurred two weeks ago on the Harold Klages place east of Joseph, reports Sheriff Guy Davis.
Three happy cowgirls are Tammy Daggett, Shelly Tippett and Mary Ann Blankinship, who were chosen as the 1978 Chief Joseph Days court at tryouts held last Sunday.
After three tries at holding an election of officers for the Jospeh Chamber of Commerce … Herb Owens, owner of the laundromat in Joseph agreed to take the job of president.
Now that Ken Rogge’s sawmill on Diamond Prairie northwest of Wallowa has been operating for over two years, he is happy to report that both production and employee morale are at an all-time high. Production at the Rogge mill is averaging about 90,000 board feet per shift, compared to the Niedermeyer-Martin Co. of Portland.

In the past month or so, a “prowler” in black has been reported on several occations by residents of Joseph, the most recent sighting Friday night.
Both sides of the controversy surrounding the proposed Prairie Creek pipeline project/watershed study verbally agreed with the need to work together to solve county water problems at a meeting with SCS state conservationist Jack Kamalz at Cloverleaf Hall Friday morning. However, it does not appear that a real truce or complete meeting of minds came out of the meeting.
A day use charge of $3 per vehicle will be charged at 30 state parks around Oregon, including Wallowa Lake State Park, starting next year if proposed fee increases go into effect.
