Of 18 Wallowa County ballot positions to go before local voters during the November general election, six will be contested positions. Two more, both city of Joseph council positions, were lacking names when the filing deadline came at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Contested races will be for zones #1, #3 and #4 for the Wallowa County Parks and Recreation District and council position #1 for the Enterprise City Council. In Wallowa the top two vote recipients from among four candidates will be elected.

Competing for the recreation district seat #1 are George Hill and David (Rusty) Hogg. Three persons have filed for recreation district seat from zone #3. They are Gale Barton, Chris Geyer and W. E. (Bud) Phillips. Competing for the Zone #4 position are Wendy McDaniel and Ronald G. Osterloh. Uncontested applicants from Zones #2 and #5 are Doug Cracraft and Gina Barstad, respectfully.

Incumbent mayors in Wallowa, Enterprise and Lostine have filed to succeed themselves, while Joseph Mayor Kevin Warnock is not up for reelection. Marge Sarmento, Susan Roberts and Krag Norton respectively are the incumbent mayors seeking reelection without opposition.

In Joseph only Jennifer Ballard has submitted her name for one of three city council openings.

George Hill and JoAnn Snead have filed uncontested to fill positions #2 and #3 in Enterprise. Hill is an incumbent while Snead is filing for the position currently held by Everett Roberts.

Incumbent councilors Jerry Wallace and Wylie Frei have filed to retain positions #1 and #2 on the Lostine council. Both are unopposed.

Incumbents Ron Philbrook and Star Longley have filed for re-election in the Wallowa city council race which also includes Robert C. (Bob) Keyser and W. E. (Bud) Phillips. Two of the four will get elected.
