Red Neck Rodeo set during fair

The annual Red Neck Rodeo will coincide with the last two days of the Wallowa County Fair this year, Friday-Saturday, Aug. 9-10.

The old-fashioned amateur rodeo, with stock provided by John Ely of Bar X Rodeo of Asotin, Wash., will feature saddle bronc, bull riding, calf roping, team roping and barrell racing for adults; with steer riding, calf riding, break away roping and musical ropes for the junior division; and the hide race for adults and juniors together. There will also be pee wee events for children age 8 and under, and mutton busting for children 7 and under or 60 pounds or less.

The Red Neck Rodeo will start at 7 p.m. and last until 9 or 10 p.m. Friday, and start at 1 p.m. and end before the fair’s 4H/FFA stock auction Saturday at 5 p.m.

Admission will be $5 or $3 for children 12 and under.

Chairman is Marven Lovell, with Evelyn Lovell and Deena Perin among organizers. Lee Daggett will be the announcer. Gladys Nobles has been chosen as 2002 Red Neck Rodeo Queen.
